SEO Analytics With Google Analytics
This is a great video y Ian Lurie of Conversation Marketing on how to use Google Analytics to interpret data from your search engine marketing campaigns. The three most important pieces of information you will want to understand from your traffic statistics are:
- Keyword data: Which keywords are driving the most traffic to your site?
- Keyword value: Which keywords account for the most engagement in your site? Which keywords drive the most conversions?
- Page context: Which pages receive the most search traffic? What keywords are associated with those pages?

Wow, that’s an old picture of GA. heh.

I am impressed at how quickly new features get added to GA and other Google apps, that even Google, let alone others, can’t keep up. I’ve often run into outdated Google help topics & tutorials.
Go for the concepts, and don’t be phased by changes in details!

i’m quite leery of using gAnalytics for my sites.for example if you pass links between your sites could google not discredit those links?this may not bother others but i’m quite paranoid about using gAnalytics.

I’m a big fan of GA as well, but I’m very interested to see what Yahoo Analytics ends up looking like. I heard good things about IndexTools (the company bought by Yahoo and renamed Yahoo Web Analytics apparently), and am interested to see how well it tracks PPC.
I found a review at http://netvantagemarketing.com/blog that seems to say that you can use APIs to track all your PPC return on ad spend across the different platforms. This would be a godsend for someone like me who advertises on MSN, Yahoo and Google.

Google Analytics works well for small business sites, but it doesnt compare when moving into bigger business and the likes of Omniture.

Google analytics is a must for SEO nowadays. First of all it’s free and it gives insights which should be used for further optimization. Besides keywords searched, origin of traffic and geolocation, one can see the path visitors take too. Other stats include, bounce rates, time on page and much more stats.

With Google Analytics, you will also be able to collect data traffic from MSN and Yahoo! search results.. The need to use Google Analytics is to track the performance of your keywords in order to have a successful campaign…

Whatever else you might say, Google Analytics can be of immense help in pointing out problems and even potential problems that you might otherwise have missed – also more importantly perhaps browsing can spark off trains of thought, can give you ideas you might never have thought of otherwise. And it’s free! Second helping please

I’m most impressed with the executive reports that were shown on the video. Was that all done with the custom reports inside of GA? If so, I need to mess around with that more.
Re: the adwords integration – make sure you’ve got your sites set up in GA under individual accounts NOT profiles – unless you want that Adwords data displayed in all of the profile accounts.

Oh definitely, everyone should be using Google Analytics. It’s a staple.
